From 2004 to 2015 I made media for a Christian broadcaster and two big California churches. These days I'm on a path toward the Catholic Church. The writing here starts from those years and follows that road, questions included.

Chapter III · Philosophy and ideas
Frameworks, lessons that cost me something, and the books I'm reading. Right now that's Aquinas, Dante, Jordan Peterson and Walt Disney, and the list on the About page starts with my dad.
A video that lands needs three things working at once. Head is the think: a clear idea, a reason to care, a point that holds up. Heart is the feel: story, tension, a human you root for. Humor is the connect, and it's my secret weapon.
Humor is the least protected emotion, which makes it the fastest way in. Share a laugh with somebody and they trust you quicker than anything else can earn. We're drawn to people with a sense of humor even when they aren't the deepest or smartest person in the room. It's hard to pull off in a video, but when you nail it you open trust faster than anything I know.
The best proof I have is a set of personality edits I made (a MrBeast one, a Jordan Peterson one, a Good Will Hunting one). They got modest views and brought in more clients than any other content or advertising I've ever made, because they found the right people and made them laugh.
